Tornado Weekly: March 31 – April 6, 2013

Rogue supercell in northern California on April 4.

After March was one of the quietest on record, the first week of April was also off to a slow start overall.

Ten tornado warnings were issued across the country in four states, with four reports of tornadoes (for two confirmed tornadoes, both with two reports each). Additionally, a waterspout came ashore in the Florida Keys.

A rather photogenic tornado was caught on video in the Texas Panhandle on a day many figured would not produce tornado activity. Later in the week, a brief tornado touched down in northern California, where it is still near the peak of their tornado season.

Arguably the biggest news of the week was a significant trough expected to eject east out into the Plains and Mississippi Valley on its way to the East Coast in this coming week.  The first large-scale springtime severe weather outbreak is likely, potentially starting today.
