Tornado Chasing

Chasecation 2017, Day 3: Blobfest yields okay day

We were not expecting much from today, but we did not get our wish of a happy mesoscale accident. What we got was a bunch of thunderstorms that could not keep up with their cold pools, resulting in storms either killing themselves off, or not staying strong long enough to get a good rotation going.

There were plenty of boundaries to play with in central Kansas today, but the weak shear in the mid-to-upper levels killed any potential for organized individual cells in the region.

Today we saw some decent base structures and some swirling motions, but with everything quickly going elevated above various storms’ cold pools, it was a day that was not all that exciting.
