A pattern dominated by cold air intrusions, historic late season snowfall, and limited opportunity for severe weather continued during the last days of April and into early May, despite the calendar flip to the most active tornado month of the year.
No tornado watches were issued across the country during the week, and only two severe thunderstorm watches went up. 19 tornado warnings were issued, largely across the Southeast. At least a couple of tornadoes have been verified in Georgia, South Carolina and Texas.
Instead of talking tornado outbreaks, most of the conversation has revolved around what has been a historic low for tornado activity over the last twelve months or so. Along with that, the good news is tornado deaths in the past year are as low as they get as well.
